An NYC Adventure (part 4)

On my very last day we hung around Brooklyn and explored D.U.M.B.O. before Jana graciously dropped me off at the AirTran. The weather was great! Perfect end to the perfect trip. I couldn't ask for better friends, I miss you guys already!

An NYC Adventure (part 3)

While I was in NYC, I got to do my grandpa proud and catch a Yankees game. It was every bit as fun as I thought it would be, and the hot dog was pretty great, too. Plus I think I'm going to just start wearing hats everywhere. That way, no one will ever see my roots.

Monday we got to take a tour of the World Trade Center memorial. The last time we were there Jana and I were 16, and you couldn't see past the scaffolding. It was an interesting feeling, to remember 9/11. It may just be me, but the reflection pools struck me as ominous and somber rather than hopeful. Can you imagine accidentally falling into that?

We walked over to check out Lady Liberty and the weather was so nice, I fell in love with New York a little bit more. 

I've been to New York a few times, but I had never been to the U.N. so we made a trip to its headquarters. It was an interesting building, high security, but old. And they legitimately have the worst bathrooms and the weirdest gift shop. 

I didn't really have a list of things that I wanted to do in New York, but I really love musicals. Really love them. They're almost always too pricey, unless you're a student, or you win the ticket lottery. We decided to try our hand at the latter. You put your name in a box, and if they draw your card, you get to but one or two tickets for $30, which is a steal. It seemed like they had called every name but ours, until the guy yelled through a megaphone, "CAITLIN STALLWARO, 2 TICKETS OR 1?" I was pretty sure that was me, and we got to see Newsies! I really liked it! Lots of dancing and crazy New York accents. 

And with that, I had done everything on the list I didn't even know I had. 

An NYC Adventure (part 2)

Saturday morning we headed on down to the Brooklyn Flea. I didn't buy any bicycles or 1960s sunglasses, but I did eat a donut that changed my life. Then we meandered our way around Brooklyn, enjoying the brownstones and sunshine.

We walked everywhere. Canal Street to the West Village, to the New York Stock Exchange, and across the Brooklyn Bridge. It's amazing how different China Town feels from Wall Street, and how different Wall Street feels from SoHo when you consider they're all technically the same place. My feet had some mean blisters when we were done. 

Can you believe we saw all of that, plus some, in one day? If the pictures aren't proof enough, I have some battle scars I can show you.

An NYC Adventure

When Orbitz gives you the chance to go to NYC and back for $260, you take it. Especially when it means you get to hang out with Brother and Sister Cummings, the coolest primary teachers in all of New York City.

It also means your flight leaves Utah at midnight, and you get stuck between two dudes the size of NFL lineman.

But nothing will fix a tiny case of jetlag faster than a nap with Simon & Remington and cupcakes in Soho.

That night we skyped with Sister Stolworthy and found out she'll be serving in the Columbia South Carolina Mission! We're all pretty excited, and prematurely planning our trip to pick her up in eighteen months. 

Friday we took our puffy coats out on the town. We hit up Time Square, Grand Central Station/Grand Central Market, and a secret hamburger joint to name a few. It was cold and rainy, but that didn't keep New York from feeling almost electric. The weather actually reminded me of London, and I felt that big city nostalgia bad.
